This adventure package in Ardèche is filled to the brim with exciting activities, perfect for kids 7 and up! The star of the show? Kayaking down the Ardèche River – it’s an epic splash through stunning landscapes that’ll make you feel like true adventurers. Plus, there’s more: high ropes in the trees, ziplining, wall climbing, via ferrata (suitable for children +12- alternatives available for under 12’s), disco nights, and sleeping under the stars. All activities are led by expert instructors, designed to be safe without compromising on the fun factor. You’ll also have the chance to explore the local culture, with time aside for visiting the nearby town of Ruoms.
The activities on this holiday are suitable for age 7+ and competent swimmers.
Arrival Day!
Your adventure begins with a warm welcome from the Acorn team. Join a tour of the picturesque campsite, showcasing the inviting swimming pool, lively volleyball court, and cozy café/bar. Next, you’ll settle into your comfortable, pre-erected tent, outfitted with all the essentials for a relaxing stay. There will be an organized activity after you settle in, or if you’d rather relax, you can plunge into the pool, unwind in the café/bar, or engage in a friendly volleyball match. As evening falls, take part in a special evening activity, and get to know the other families. The day ends with a delightful communal dinner, providing the perfect end to a day full of new experiences.
High Ropes Course, Swimming Pool Games & Relax
Today’s all about adventure among the trees! Start the day with a delicious breakfast to fuel the day’s adventures. Then, it’s time for the morning activity: the thrilling high ropes course. Taking place in the nearby woods, the course offers various sections and challenges. This is a true playground in the sky, where families can test their agility and courage. Older children (12+) can opt for a more daring challenge with older children (12+), tackling the more via ferrata climbing course above the Chassezac River. Younger adventurers (9-12) will enjoy a slightly different but equally exciting route. Be sure to snap a photo of the amazing vista seen from up high.
After the morning’s thrills, you’ll break for lunch, followed by fun swimming pool games organised by our team. This is the perfect opportunity to cool off with a dip in the pool or simply relax in the sun, soaking in the natural beauty of the campsite. Later, you’ll meet with the staff to discuss the upcoming river trip planned for the next day. End the day with a relaxing family dinner.
Kayak Adventure on the Ardèche River
After breakfast, gear up for an unforgettable kayaking adventure across the Ardèche River, the crown jewel of this trip. You’ll be equipped with waterproof barrels to protect your belongings.
Even if you’re new to kayaking, our trained experts will ensure your safety, guiding you through the basics. Then, you’re off on a 24 km kayaking adventure, spread over two days, navigating through over 20 rapids amidst breathtaking scenery.
Midday, enjoy a picturesque picnic lunch on the riverbanks before continuing your kayak journey to the bivvi site, your overnight stop. Here, amidst nature, our staff will greet you with a prepared dinner. Get ready for a magical night under the stars, with sleeping mats and tarpaulins set for your comfort. Basic bathroom and shower facilities are available, and in case of rainy weather, cover provisions will be arranged. This day promises a blend of thrill, natural beauty, and unforgettable family bonding.
Kayak Adventure on the Ardèche River
Wake up to a delightful breakfast prepared by the staff at the bivvi site. After breakfast, you’ll resume your kayak journey down the enchanting Ardèche River. As you paddle, soak in the stunning vistas of towering cliffs and lush greenery, a truly picturesque scene. Enjoy another delightful riverside lunch with your family before reaching the trip’s endpoint in the afternoon. A coach will take you back to the campsite, where you may unwind by the pool, or indoors, in the games room.
After another delectable dinner, the adventure shifts to exploring the night market in Ruoms, known for its picturesque setting and vibrant atmosphere, where you can immerse yourself in local culture and find unique souvenirs. There’s no better way to get a taste of French culture than by visiting a local market.
A Free Day to Relax & Explore
Following breakfast, the day is yours to explore as you wish. You have the option to revisit Ruoms, conveniently located within walking distance.
For those looking to venture further, the beautiful town of Vallon (20 minutes away by car) is a must-visit. You can hop on the coach, or drive there on your own if you opted for a self-drive holiday. Here, you can marvel at the natural limestone bridge, Pont d’Arc, carved out by the Ardèche river. Vallon is also home to the Castle of Vallon Pont d’Arc and the nearby Grotte Chauvet-Pont d’Arc, a cave with prehistoric drawings.
Another not-to-be-missed destination is the Orgnac Caves (40 minutes away by car or coach). These grandiose caverns offer a guided tour through breathtaking subterranean landscapes, featuring mesmerizing rock formations, the history sculpted into stone. The Red Chamber, at the end of the tour, showcases an original gallery with traces of an underground river, culminating in a sound and light show that highlights the cave’s majesty. Please note, however, that you’ll need to purchase your own ticket for these visits.
Return to the campsite for a relaxing evening and a delicious dinner. Lastly, put on your dancing shoes and let loose at the evening disco!
On-site Activities
After breakfast, get ready for a day of activities on-site. Tackle the extensive high ropes course, where you can navigate through various obstacles high above the ground, testing your balance and bravery.
Enjoy a leisurely cooked lunch, prepared by our catering team.
For those with a flair for adventure, the “Mission Impossible” team-building activity offers a chance to step into the shoes of a spy, solving puzzles and navigating challenges in a fun, collaborative environment.
Climb to new heights on the climbing wall, a perfect blend of physical challenge and patience, where you can scale different routes and enjoy a sense of achievement with each ascent.
After dinner, take part in some fun-filled river games before a relaxed evening making the most of the on-site bar and social areas.
Final Day of Adventure
On your last day at Camping La Savane, you’ll start with a hearty breakfast. Make the most of your morning with a choice of either visiting the Ruoms weekly market. Each week, locals fill the streets to browse the fresh produce and artisan crafts. If you’re all shopped out, opt for a game of Tag Archery instead!
The adventure concludes at 2 PM, as you check out and depart, either by coach or your own travel arrangements, carrying home memories of a holiday filled with excitement, laughter, and unforgettable family moments – truly an adventure that sets the bar high!
Stay in a Family Camping Village
If you’re looking for an unforgettable and hassle-free camping experience, you’re in the right place. Camping La Savane is surrounded by natural beauty on all sides. The banks of rivers Le Baume and Ardèche are within walking distance, you can spot the valley’s stony cliffs from here, and the shady, imposing trees are a perfect spot to relax.
La Savane has everything you need for a stress-free family holiday. You and your family will be staying in a private tented village, and your tent will be ready for you as soon as you arrive. Additionally, there are plenty of facilities onsite for you to enjoy: a large, private swimming pool, a volleyball court, a game room, Wi-Fi, a café/bar, a shop, and many more. If you’d rather venture out, there are plenty of spots to explore (such as the famed Orgnac Caves).
Your camping family village
You and your family will be staying within one of our private family “tented villages” found across the campsite. Shared with a maximum of 16 other tents, this is where you’ll find your family tent/s, along with a central marquee, perfect for enjoying a drink and getting to know your fellow campers at the end of an adventurous day.
Based on your family size, there are two tent options:
1. Families of four or more –Families of four or more will have two tents (a primary and standard tent). The primary tent features raised beds with comfortable mattresses, hard flooring, electric plugs, lighting, a fridge, and a wardrobe. The standard tent comes with raised beds with cushy mattresses (up to four beds), hard flooring and a lantern.
2. Families of 2 & 3 – Smaller families of 2 or 3 stay altogether in a standard tent, which has up to four raised beds, comfortable mattresses, hard flooring and a lantern. However, if you need a little extra comfort, you may upgrade your standard tent to a primary tent or add another tent for an extra charge (subject to availability).
Amenities and facilities
We want your time with us to be as memorable and comfortable as possible. We provide two large toilet and shower blocks (so there’s plenty of space to freshen up in the morning), Wi-Fi access across the site, a shop (just in case you forgot to pack something), and a café/bar stocked with refreshments.
While our programme is packed with fun activities, there’s plenty to do around the campsite, too. Take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, challenge your family to a game of volleyball on the court, check out the games room, or simply soak up the sunshine in the picnic area. Don’t miss out on the great views from the beach at the far end of the camp, right by the river. Each camping village includes a central marquee, where you can get to know the other campers over a glass of wine.
Meals
All your meals for you and your family are included during your stay: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our team onsite catering team will prepare nutritious meals each day. Rest assured, you’ll definitely feel energized for the adventures ahead.
Start your morning with a delicious breakfast spread, complemented by fresh juices and piping coffee. After a morning spent adventuring, grab some light lunch with the other families.
Lastly, your hearty evening meal includes a delicious glass of wine, and you can purchase more drinks from the campsite bar. If you’d like to snack on something throughout the day, pay a visit to the onsite shop, or the bar by the swimming pool.
The picturesque location
Camping La Savane, found in south-central France, sits at the heart of Ardeche’s adventure playground, offering your family a thrilling base to explore the region’s wonders. Just moments away, the iconic Vallon Pont d’Arc stands as a majestic natural monument. The campsite is encircled by vibrant towns like Vallon and Aubenas, buzzing with lively markets and local character. For an underground escapade, the Orgnac Caves, as tall as Niagara Falls, await to be explored with their ancient formations.
The charming town of Ruoms is also close by. You’ll find a large supermarket in the town, as well as other useful services, like doctor’s clinics and pharmacies. If you want a taste of the French countryside life, the town also hosts a weekly Friday market.
Sleeping under the stars during the Bivvi trip
As part of your included activities, you’ll embark on an exhilarating two-day river adventure with the Acorn River Team, culminating in a memorable overnight stay at a National Park-run Bivvi site. Join fellow families as you sleep under the stars, snug on a sleeping mat and tarpaulin, with cover available in case of rain.
Our team will welcome you with a hot evening meal and provide lively entertainment. Enjoy riverside lunches the following day with fresh baguettes, crisps, and fruit. In the evening, savor a freshly cooked meal at the Bivvi site, followed by a hearty breakfast the next morning. For your journey, waterproof barrels are provided to keep your belongings safe and dry.
There are two ways to get to Ardèche Adventure Camp: by coach or using the self-drive option.
By Coach
Traveling by coach to our Ardèche Adventure Camp is a breeze for families. It’s affordable, hassle-free, and lets you unwind – imagine finally catching up on your reading! With fewer baggage restrictions than flying, packing is a snap. The coach itself is designed for comfort: think plush seats, air conditioning, a DVD player for entertainment, and an onboard WC. Plus, it’s a great chance to start making friends with fellow camp-goers before you even arrive. Choosing the coach means less stress in planning and more relaxation en route to your adventure.
The journey from Calais to Ardèche lasts about 13 hours. There’ll be plenty of stops along the way for you to stretch your legs, along with a longer lunch stop. On the way back, you’ll have time to grab an evening meal on the ferry back or enjoy your own packed meal and snacks. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the wonderful scenery of the French countryside.

Your coach stays with you for the duration of your holiday and will take you to any off-site activities and organised excursions.
Self-Drive/Fly-Drive
Our self-drive option lets you journey to the Ardèche Adventure Camp at your own pace, offering the flexibility to extend your holiday. If you’re flying in, you can opt rent a car for your stay, giving you more freedom to explore as you wish and the chance to load up on French treats for the journey home. It’s a great way to add a personal touch to your adventure!
If you’d rather reach us via public transport from the airport, this is perfectly possible too and we will arrange your transport to and from the organised activities, making this option as easy and convenient as possible.
