Acorn Adventure specialises in active camping holidays for families in Wales, France, Italy and Spain. Accommodation is in tented “villages”, which are already set up, and all activities, meals and evening entertainment are included. Acorn runs a handful of trips exclusively for one-parent families, including a week in the Ardèche, southern France, the highlight of which is a two-day canoe trip along the Ardèche river gorge, with overnight bivouac camp.
"Head to Acorn Holidays' Brecon Beacons Family Adventure Camp where you'll find a jam-packed programme including canoeing, sailing, kayaking, raft building and paddle boarding. Meanwhile back on land, you can expect fencing, zip wire, high ropes, bushcraft, archery, rifle shooting, orienteering and abseiling, as well as quirky extras including a challenge course".
Top blog 'Camping with style' travelled to our Ardèche centre this summer and it’s safe to say had an incredible time!
"There’s nothing quite as satisfying as setting your out of office email responder, so late on Friday afternoon, as I set mine, my head is immediately in holiday mode. On the way home from work I nip to my nearest outdoors shop, and purchase a just-in-case mosquito net I reserved online that afternoon in a panic. Once home, I finish off my last minute packing then call to book a taxi to take us to the station for our 8:20am train up to Manchester the next morning".
Our family adventure holidays to the Ardèche and Normandy regions of France have been recomended by the Daily Telegraph in their review of the best French activity holidays!

With two very different locations, children and their families can experience a fantastic range of activities, making the most of the natural environment and fully under the care and instruction of our Acorn employed instructors. The highlight of our trip to the Ardèche region in the South of France is an incredible two day descent through the stunning gorges of the Ardèche river, with an overnight bivvy stay at our riverside camp. For those wishing for a more authentic French experience, Normandy has all the charm, with pretty countryside and bustling French market towns and a gorgeous coastline. Our private campsite is perfectly situated, with many of the activities on-site or very close by.

The Daily Telegraph has again highlighted one of our holidays, this time at our Spanish centre, Cala Llevado, as being the 'cheapest' family activity break they can find. We prefer the term 'best value'!
Acorn Family Holidays (0121 504 2070; acornfamilyholidays.co.uk) Cheapest family activity break I can find in Spain in the school summer holidays: £699 adults, £649 children, all-inclusive for a week on the Costa Brava, including coach travel from/to Britain.

MyChild have recommended Acorn as one of their Top 5 UK Staycations for families:
You don't have to go abroad for a unique family holiday experience. MyChild has searched the UK for unusual holidays in the UK which are guaranteed to offer something new, from a stay in a medieval priory to a horse riding holiday. You know what they say, a change is as good as a rest!
The Sunday Times have given us (almost!) top-billing in their recommendations for summer adventures - summer holidays with that little bit extra.... Here's what they say:
2 The outdoor life in Brecon
Just north of the Welsh town of Abergavenny lie the Brecon Beacons, home to Acorn Adventures (0121 504 2070, www.acornfamilyholidays.co.uk), which sells all-inclusive, multi-activity family camping trips under the tag line: "No more boring holidays". Sleeping in safari-style tents at the Tan Troed camp site, you'll wake up to three sessions a day of more than 18 outdoor pursuits. "So many opportunities to get wet," smirks the blurb, but nobody's forcing you to test that raft you build.
The Times has featured us again; this time in their 50 best camp sites feature.
They list us at the top of their selection of "FIVE FOR ADVENTURERS"
"Acorn Family Holidays has pre-erected tents (with solid floors and sprung beds) here so you don't need to bring your own, and which, with its sister site Royal Oak about a mile away on the shores of Llangorse Lake, sleeps about 250. There are lots of activities to keep children busy, from abseiling, archery and zip-wiring to sailing and kayaking. Meals (included in the price, as is tuition) are taken in a central marquee. Details: 0121 504 2070, www.acornfamilyholidays.co.uk."
The Times has chosen our Ardèche centre as one of its Top 20 Family Holidays!
In their article published on Saturday 18th April 2009, they highlight the two-day descente of the Ardèche river by open canoe. This is one of our most popular holidays and we are over the moon for it to have been recognised again as a holiday of choice for families. Unfortunately, we can't give you a link to it as you need a subscription to the Times' website.
Travel options to this holiday are either by one of our executive coaches or by self-drive/fly-drive. Book online today and we will make all travel arrangements for you, whichever option you choose.
"But for a full-on range of adrenalin-pumping activity, you can't beat a week with Acorn Family Holidays. Acorn offers a choice of mountain and waterside activities in Europe, including Wales and the Lake District. Captain your own catamaran; go climbing and abseiling; take on the rapids in a raft, and camp under the stars.
It sounds like a dad's dream come true. And you never know – the kids might enjoy it too."
Our holidays, especially our family coach holidays, are always incredibly popular with single-parent families.
We get lots of feedback from single parents saying that their children had a great time making friends, and that supervision is easy - which is especially welcomed as they made new friends too!
We get lots of mums as well as dads bringing their children, but The Independent recently ran an article for dads looking to take their kids on a special holiday. This is what they said:
Latest surveys show that Brits are returning to family camping holidays as the credit crunch bites, according to one of the large camping operators which has seen a 10-20% increase in bookings in the last six weeks.
Latest Hitwise stats show searches for camping holidays online trebled in May compared to the beginning of the year.
In industry survey has shown that the need for seclusion and wide open spaces provided by family camping holidays is key to the 21st century Brit’s ideal getaway, the desire for exhilarating activity is also part of the package. Some 30% of holidaymakers say they want to do something different on their break, with archery, dancing, quad biking and zip wiring all popular activities for holidaymakers.
Here at Acorn, we're busier than ever!
